Lawyer and financial specialist. Graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Silesia. Joanna Schmid completed numerous postgraduate courses, including MBA course at Warsaw School of Economics, executive studies in accounting and taxes at the University of Warsaw, course on company management in the context of European integration at the Warsaw School of Economics, course on operation of commercial banks at the University of Economics in Katowice and a postgraduate course in nuclear energy at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków.

Joanna Schmid completed numerous courses and seminars devoted to restructuring, mergers, acquisitions, management of holding structures, corporate governance, corporate finance. 
 
In the years 1994-2001 she worked at ING Bank Śląski, first in the Strategic Section of the Management Board Bureau, in Capital Investment Department and in Legal Department. In the years 1998-2000 she was Section Manager at Grupa Inwestycyjna Sp. z o.o., in the years 2001-2007 she was Vice-President of the Management Board, CFO at Fundusz Górnośląski S.A. and from 2008 to 2010 she was under-secretary of State in the Ministry of the State Treasury.
 
During her career, Joanna Schmid executed many investment projects, e.g. in the power and hard coal mining sectors as well as in management of capital groups, in particular in the field of restructuring, corporate governance, strategy and investment projects. She was a consultant in finances and investment. She sat in numerous supervisory boards, including public companies, manufacturers, investment houses and investment funds. She worked in commissions, was a member of chamber of commerce, business club, self-government units and economic committee. 
She  was appointed to the Management Board of TAURON Polska Energia S.A. as of 1 October 2010. She is in  charge of the departments of strategic development, and strategic projects.
